A tourist park goes paperless on 4G and Wi-Fi

No NBN, basic internet and no capacity for streaming. Dual-SIM cellular plus site-wide Wi-Fi turned check-in, marketing and guest service around.

The problem

The park wanted to streamline operations — going paperless as far as possible and advertising in smarter ways using new technology. It had only ever had access to basic internet, with too little capacity for streaming services, and there was still no NBN available in that part of Queensland.

What was done

Cellular was the practical answer. Our solutions team identified two nearby towers, one on Telstra and one on Optus, and specified a dual-SIM router with external antennas on the main reception roof so the site had a failover path if one network went down. A point-to-point Wi-Fi network built off that router extended localised coverage to guests and staff across the park.

How it turned out

The park moved to paperless check-in through the management portal, capturing guest details for later marketing. Being able to advertise free Wi-Fi has increased bookings, and the coverage reaches the whole 2,400 m² area. The source does not quantify the booking increase.

“We work closely with local tourism operators to come up with the best offers for our customers when they stay, and in some cases it results in our business receiving rebates. It's a win-win.”

Deployed at the time

As named in the original case study. Some of it is superseded, or was never in our range.

  • Robustel R2000 dual-SIM router — series not currently stocked
  • External antennas on the main reception roof
  • Altai Super WiFi point-to-point network
  • AltaiCare management portal

What we'd specify today

Current equivalents from our catalogue for this kind of site — not a statement about the hardware installed.

Where this came from

Transcribed from iDatanet's published case study. The source names the Robustel R2000, a series we no longer stock, and refers to "Altai Super WiFi Products" without a model. The products listed are current equivalents from our range.
