Council Implement Smart Cities Security Solution
The Problem:
Increased crime has kicked a regional council into gear, leading to the installation a new CCTV system that spans across six towns, allowing remote access to Police and contracted security agencies.
After several reports were made regarding vandalism to vehicles, public buildings and parks, the council had no option but to increase surveillance in problem areas. The goal was to deter perpetrators, or better still, be able to identify and catch them.
Due to the locations of the townships and the areas requiring surveillance, cabling infrastructure was non-existent nor economical to install. Therefore, all camera locations would require wireless data links back to the network video recorders (or NVR’s) at each of the town’s council offices.
A considerable number of existing private and public wireless data links in the area created interference on the unlicensed frequencies on the high points.
The Solution:
A robust wireless backhaul infrastructure was necessary to support the new CCTV network, linking a total of nearly 200 camera locations in the townships across distances of up to 15kms.
For this solution InfiNet Wireless point- to multi-point radios and antennas were selected, due to their high efficiency and interference mitigation technologies.
Results:
The council now have full visibility of the township. There has been a significant decrease in crime rates since the installation of the network and cameras.
“The local parks are being utilised more often, and we are not seeing as many people out on the streets during the night. These criminals know now they are being watched, and it’s making our neighbourhoods feel safer”.
