Improving Mobile Signal in Aged Care Facility
The Problem:
A brand-new Aged Care Facility West of Brisbane suffered from a complete lack of mobile cellular coverage.
This 94-room facility was only operating at 70% capacity coverage, with Management constantly receiving complaints from staff, visitors and residents.
The lack of mobile coverage was affecting the facilities’ operations – since mobiles and smart tablets were used as the main source of communication, residents were not able to contact family or surf the internet. In addition, visitors were unable to receive calls or access internet while on the premises.
There was a cellular tower less than 2km away, but the materials used in construction had made it hard for any signal to penetrate through the building.
The Solution:
Idatanet’s Network Engineers, Project Management & Installation Team were able to determine the best plan of action once an onsite survey had been completed.
The Signify Solution utilising 3G and 4G for for all 3 major carriers (Telstra, Optus and Vodafone) was installed in the Level 4 Communications room, and connected to external antennas.
32 ceiling dome antennas – which redistributed the signal internally – were installed throughout the facility’s major thoroughfairs, the kitchen, board room and staff rooms.
Results:
Idatanet were able to achieve onsite surveys, network design, product delivery, installation and completion of the project within 2 weeks of the customer contacting them for a solution.
Once the site was live, the management team, staff, visitors and residents were all able to make phone calls and use the internet without any interruption.
The facility manager said: “We used to have to walk outside to make and receive phone calls. You’d have dozens of voicemails to listen to. We knew it was a big problem for us. We are very happy with the outcome of this project, and will look to work with the idatanet team for our other facilities”.
