In-Building Cellular Coverage

The Problem:

A Sydney apartment block was constructed using concrete-filled blocks with several metal exterior designs for aesthetic purposes.
As a result, the cellular reception for both voice and data throughout the building was very limited.

The 7-storey apartment building contains 36 apartments, hosting a combination of permanent residents, and apartments for short- and long -term holiday rentals. Due to the poor cellular reception, the building was receiving increasingly bad reviews and complaints. 

In addition, the basement car park had no coverage at all, which in itself was a safety concern for the Strata Manager.

The Solution:

The Strata Management company engaged idatanet to build a solution to improve cellular coverage throughout the complex.

Our Installation and Project Management team – along with our in-house Network Engineers –  collaborated and designed a Signify solution to provide 3G and 4G coverage for Telstra, Vodafone, and Optus that dramatically improved reception throughout the building.

This resolved the problem, allowing holiday makers and permanent residents to have uninterrupted calls and data sessions.

When working with clients, idatanet will not only consider factors such as balancing incoming signals and choosing the best external antennas with regards to the existing outside signal, but also look to implement a design that is aesthetically pleasing.

Results:

The Strata Manager has since reported that there is total satisfaction by the Owners Corporation, with the improvement in signal strength throughout the building.

Residents and holiday makers have since praised the Strata Management for investing into a solution.

Turnover of rentals has decreased, leases are being extended and reviews from holiday makers have taken a positive turn.
